News & Reviews - Blog - What audiences said about the 2019 Iford Arts season at Belcombe Court

We asked the audiences of our first two evenings at Belcombe Court, the Clare Teal Prom and the opening night of L’elisir d’amore for their feedback.. here’s a selection of what audiences had to say..

Did I enjoy L’elisir d’amore?  I absolutely loved it and so do did my father who is 81. I’ve seen a couple of operas in Venice but the Iford production was so much better in every way. I thought it was fantastic. It has started my love affair with opera!

We were so in love with Iford itself we jolly nearly didn’t book for Belcombe after the Iford departure,  but WOW! L’Elisir was just superb, and the setting totally stunning – our party all agreed  we couldn’t imagine a better evening out. We were amazed that the dome so closely matched the magic of the cloister. We know Belcombe was meant to be a stopgap just for this year, but thought it worth adding our pleas (I’m sure you’ve had many) for negotiating continuing Belcombe adoption.
Best wishes, thanks for a brilliant evening.

I never thought that the charm or intimacy of Peto Gardens could be improved upon but I was so wrong. Last night was a most magical experience for my husband and I and our daughter who was celebrating her 40th birthday. She described it as stepping into an alternate universe. A beautiful house, exquisite grounds, ample nooks and crannies for picnics, a thousand twinkling candles illuminating grottoes and shell rooms and that is not to mention a charmingly funny opera which the whole cast acted and sang with such joy. It was infectious. I want everyone I know to have the pleasure of coming if only once. Please pass on my thanks to the many volunteers who made everything so effortless and principally to the owners of Belcombe for their generous and gracious hospitality.

We have been Iford fans for nearly as long as it’s been going.  Last night we came to Belcombe. Wonderful opera in stunning surroundings. We do hope that Iford Arts has found a new home.

I would like to compliment you on the organisation (parking, helpers, guides etc.) for the event, it was really top class. Likewise I must say the choice of venue was outstanding. The attention to detail, the lighting throughout the garden, made the evening truly magical and one of the best events we have attended for many years. Wish you every success for future events , hopefully to be held at the splendid venue of Belcombe Court.

Our first night at the new venue after many years at Iford. The new location has some major advantages for those travelling a distance. A rail service plus close to some hotels and B & Bs. The setting is charming…. One great Iford tradition that was maintained was the willing and friendly volunteers.

Wonderful, fairy tale setting at Belcombe Court, I hope that it will become Iford Opera’s permanent new home. The setting for the opera mimicked Iford’s Cloisters brilliantly. Also, part of the magic is keeping the numbers similar to Iford, so that it continues to feel personal. The singing was marvellous, full of enthusiasm, and even my husband was wide awake throughout! Having coffee in the barn was a complete delight, and i was so pleased to see they had the Iford Brandy Snaps which were delicious. Thank you for a fabulous evening, and seeing everything lit by candle light as we went home made it like a real fairy tale

We thought that the venue and the event was outstanding this year. What a stunning location, even better than Iford (and I never thought that I would say that)

The ‘dome’ worked really well and may we also comment on how well the whole thing was managed?  All the volunteers were superb and guided us around quietly and efficiently.  Our two guests enjoyed the event hugely. It was a triumph

An excellent evening in so many ways. Firstly, the weather was just what one would have hoped for – a calm sunny evening which was just right for picnicking and for exploring the beautiful gardens. Secondly, we were very impressed with the dome which allowed comfortable seating, good visibility and acoustics. Also, to see Belcombe House all lit up after dark was truly a sight to behold.

Loved it! Setting is delightful and stewards particularly attentive. Clare Teal of course excellent at what she does and she gets better… Bar very good too and liked the Dome with lots of seating under cover…of course we were blessed with the weather and coming from Avoncliff we just strolled there
