Following on from a successful 2019 season, which saw Iford Arts move away from long time home Iford Manor and explore exciting new venues. Iford Arts is thrilled to announce the appointment of Oliver Gooch as Artistic Director.
Musical Director of Iford Arts since 2005, the British conductor balances his orchestral engagements with extensive work in opera in the UK and abroad. His orchestral and operatic conducting career to date has seen collaborations with the LSO, Philharmonia, RPO, BBC Symphony, Hallé, Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Opera North; and further afield, RTE National Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, AsLico and New York Sinfonietta.
Oliver remains committed to nurturing new talent and will continue to spearhead the development of the Iford Arts’ New Generation Artists programme.
Oliver Gooch, Artistic Director, says of his appointment: “Iford Arts has established itself as the home for opera in the South West and I am honoured and delighted to be its new Artistic Director. Building on the extraordinary legacy of Judy Eglington, I am looking forward to leading Iford Arts’ artistic vision at this exciting time of development, building on its reputation for making bold and ambitious work in extraordinary places.”
Oliver’s appointment follows Judy Eglington’s decision to step back from her day to day role as Artistic Director. Iford Arts is indebted to Judy for what she has achieved over the last 27 years.
David Moss, Chairman of Iford Arts, said: “We are delighted to offer this year three superb but very different operas in three delightful locations. And we are very pleased that we have Oliver Gooch on board to lead us artistically, much loved by our audiences and well able to build on all that Judy Eglington has achieved in past years.”
The annual Iford Arts Festival continues to attract sell-out audiences who travel to see unique intimate opera (performed in English), picnic proms and concert performances in and near Bath.
