News & Reviews - Blog - A Statement from David Moss, Chairman of Iford Arts

A statement from David Moss, Chairman of Iford Arts:

As a consequence of the government’s advice relating to the Covid-19 pandemic and with great regret, the trustees of Iford Arts would like to inform our supporters, volunteers, audience, casts and crew, that our 2020 season of opera and concerts will no longer take place.

Our productions of The Merry Widow and Carmen will now be postponed until 2021. Sadly, both the New Generation Artist Concert and the Early Opera Company’s performance of Acis and Galatea (coming to us via another summer opera festival) will not take place.

We remain hopeful that the two Picnic Proms will go ahead at the end of August/early September as planned and we are currently proceeding on that basis with tickets purchased still being valid. However, we will of course regularly review government advice and will keep in touch as developments dictate.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly. We have great concerns for our performers, creatives, musicians and all who contribute to our year round activity who will now suffer as a consequence of our decision to cancel the 2020 season.  We will try to assist them as best we can and your generosity will make a significant difference, not only to our ongoing situation but also to the livelihood of our freelance artists and creatives who – like many others – find their income reduced to almost nothing at this time

If you have purchased a ticket for The Merry WidowCarmen, New Generation Artists Concert or Acis and Galatea, all options – be it refund, credit, part refund or donation – will be available through the Bath Box Office who will be in contact within the next two weeks. We are small arts charity that, at present, relies on the generosity of our patrons, sponsors and ticket buyers. By not asking for a refund and donating your ticket fee to us, you are quite simply, securing our future in these challenging times.

These are unprecedented times that come at a critical point in our development.  We continue to look at new permanent venues and we look forward to announcing some exciting news on this soon.  Once again, we are deeply saddened to have to take this course of action and on reflection, given the current situation; we feel our efforts are better spent securing the very best 2021 season.

In the meantime, we are sincerely grateful to our volunteers, hosts and patrons who underpin everything that we do and to our audiences and the huge amount of support they have shown us. We wish all of you and the teams both on and off stage the best of health and we look forward to welcoming you to next year’s Iford Arts Programme in 2021.
