‘Under The Stars’ 18th – 20th June:
Join us for the season launch in the stunning 18th century grounds of Belcombe. Rarely open to the public, the Grade 1 listed house is set in 60 acres of glorious formal gardens, parkland and woodland, and we are taking full advantage of the outdoors for this exciting (socially distanced if applicable) weekend of open air events.
Opera della Luna makes a keenly anticipated return with a hilarious Offenbach one act opera, The Isle of Tulipatan, presented on the tennis lawn. One of Offenbach’s most crazy creations, it is a tale of wrongly assigned gender and there’s no doubt that director, Jeff Clarke, will relish its outrageous absurdity in his own bright and breezy translation. There will be an evening Prom – to be announced! Expect at least three different class acts in the grade 1 listed garden. The perfect way to while away a summer evening with picnics shared with friends. Our final day is for families and children, both young and old. The award-winning orchestra, Orpheus Sinfonia, made up of the UK’s most promising young musicians, presents two performances of Prokofiev’s children’s fairy tale, Peter and the Wolf. The performance complete with narrator will include a fully interactive introduction to the instruments of the orchestra. It is a perfect opportunity for younger members of the family to enjoy the world of classical music – and there will be a few surprises on the way!
At the end of the summer, August 27th to September 4th, we return with our unique geodesic dome to glorious Belcombe, presenting opera’s ultimate seductress Carmen, for the first time in Iford Arts’ history. Presented in the round and sung in English, you can look forward to a spectacular cast and some exciting young talent from the Iford Arts Young Artists Programme.
And finally…the insuperable talent that is Christian Curnyn. His Early Opera Company will present on Saturday 11th September, a concert semi-staging of Acis and Galatea, Handel’s light-hearted pastoral opera in the beautifully reordered Holy Trinity Church, Bradford-on-Avon. Don’t miss this evening of sublime music making from a world class outfit.
