Candide *
May 26 | 29 | 30  |June 1 | 2 | 5
Tickets: £126 (Mon-Fri) £130 (Sat)*

Candide (our boldest initiative of the season) will be conducted by Oliver Gooch and directed by the wickedly inventive Jeff Clarke. It is hard to think of a more perfect ‘dream team’ to present this Pythonesque ensemble piece: a whirligig journey through life and beyond,  suffused as it is with dance melodies

* Music by LEONARD BERNSTEIN. Book adapted from Voltaire by HUGH WHEELER. Lyrics by RICHARD WILBUR. New version by JOHN CAIRD (The 1999 Royal National Theatre version). With additional lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, John Latouche, Lillian Hellman, Dorothy Parker and Leonard Bernstein. Performed by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) Limited.

Partenope – George Frederick Handel
An Iford Arts Production
June 23 | 26 | 28 | 30 | July 3 | 4
Tickets: £126 (Mon-Fri) £130 (Sat)*

Handel’s Partenope will be created by Christopher Bucknall and Christopher Cowell ( who directed the wonderful La boheme this year close). A tragicomedy, Partenope features six characters clustered around Partenope, Queen of Naples. They are all meshed together in toils of love, ambition, revenge and cross-dressing. As always Handel touches your heart profoundly, before the revealing denouement brings the story to its pleasing conclusion. The music is Handel at his most ravishing.

Madame Butterfly – Giacomo Puccini
An Iford Arts Production
July 21 | 24 | 26 | 28 |31  | Aug 2 | 4
Tickets: £126 (Mon-Fri) £130 (Sat)*

To direct Puccini’s Madame Butterfly at Iford has been a long held ambition of  Bruno Ravella. This all-time favourite, which embodies that classic Italian duality – a poignant mixture of warm, luxuriant melody together with a clear-eyed depiction of a young girl abused, deceived and deserted – will be conducted by Tom Blunt, making his Iford debut.

“There is almost nothing to beat the magic of Iford at its intimate best” The Times

In their different ways we feel confident that each of these operas is likely to prove very popular and we do urge you to book early to be sure of getting the seats you need
